Over the last decade Ari Lankin has extensively developed painted languages exploring abstraction, concepts, and realism. His current paintings are intentionally open to interpretation and rich in visual sensation. They hover on a slippery line between mystical and scientific. Paint handling, invention, and exploration of the picture plane are crucial aspects of his search. His interest in material, process, and creative consulting have led him to collaborations with Adidas, MTV x Trojan, Burt’s Bees, Red Bull, and Tino Sehgal during his solo show at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Using his unique skill set and experience he has created commissioned paintings, one-of-a-kind programming, and custom tailored consulting with an emphasis on branding. Lankin was recently profiled in a mini documentary of his painting process by MTV. He has been featured by Forbes, Vice Creator's Project, Studio Visit Magazine, and newspapers around the world. His recent painting solo show in New York City, a collection of large-scale abstractions, completely sold out. He worked at the Guggenheim for over seven years as an educator spending countless hours engaged with art objects and patrons. He had thousands of conversations with complete strangers about works of art. He credits that time to truly learning the universal magic of art. His interest in other artists and art history is passionate. Education and curation are important aspects of his practice Lankin lives in Manhattan where he has had his studio for the past twelve years.
